What goes into every dolop, and why it matters
Just like a master baker chooses the finest flour and purest vanilla, we're thoughtful about what goes into each dolop. Every material is carefully selected, tested, and sourced with both performance and responsibility in mind. Because great design deserves great ingredients.
Bio-based materials
Our primary material is bio-based PLA (polylactic acid) derived from renewable plant sources like corn, sugarcane, cassava, and sugar beet pulp. Unlike traditional petroleum-based plastics, this material comes from crops that can be replanted season after season.
We also work with PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) for applications requiring extra durability and clarity. Both materials are chosen for their exceptional print quality, long-term stability, and smaller environmental footprint compared to conventional plastics.

Recycled materials
When possible, we source recycled versions of our core materials—both PLA and PETG—without compromising the premium quality you expect from dolop. We test extensively to ensure recycled materials meet our standards for surface finish, color accuracy, and long-term performance.
Our electronics components are also sourced from suppliers committed to responsible practices when available at our quality standards.

Each "flavor" is carefully formulated to maintain consistent hue and finish across different lighting conditions.
Beyond colors, we offer textures that add personality to every piece—from silky smooth finishes to subtly textured surfaces that invite touch. Every combination is thoughtfully tested to ensure it looks as good in your space as it does in our workshop.

Thoughtful sourcing
We're proud to source our primary PLA materials from U.S.-based suppliers, keeping our supply chain short and supporting American manufacturing. When we need to source internationally—particularly for specialized electronics—we're transparent about where everything comes from.
Think of it as ingredient labeling for design objects. You deserve to know exactly what's going into your home, just like you want to know what's going into your body. Healthy materials, healthy spaces.

Premium standards
We test extensively and never compromise on quality to hit a price point. While this might mean our lamps cost more than mass-produced alternatives, we believe exceptional design deserves exceptional materials.
Every material undergoes rigorous testing for color stability, surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and long-term performance. If it doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't make it into a dolop—regardless of cost savings.
